Veg momos Recipe



Momos are popular street food in many parts of Asia, especially in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and India. They are a type of dumpling that is usually filled with meat, but vegetarian versions are also popular. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to make veg momos.

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Water as required

For the filling:

  • 2 cups finely chopped cabbage
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 cup finely chopped bell peppers
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp grated garlic
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder

For the dipping sauce:

  • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar

Step-by-step guide:

  1. To make the dough, mix together the flour and salt in a bowl. Gradually add water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  2. To make the filling, heat the oil in a pan and add the chopped onions, ginger, and garlic. Saute until the onions become translucent.

  3. Add the chopped cabbage, grated carrots, and bell peppers to the pan. Mix well and saute for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are cooked but still retain their crunch.

  4. Add salt and black pepper powder to the vegetables and mix well. Set the filling aside to cool.

  5. To make the dipping sauce, mix together the tomato ketchup, soy sauce, chilli sauce, and vinegar in a bowl. Set it aside.

  6. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle with a diameter of about 3-4 inches.

  7. Take a tablespoon of the filling and place it in the centre of the rolled dough. Bring the edges of the dough together and pleat them to seal the filling inside.

  8. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.

  9. Steam the momos in a steamer basket for 8-10 minutes until they become translucent and the filling is cooked.

  10. Serve hot momos with the dipping sauce.
